George Westinghouse High School is
a community where all members support each other to achieve their
potential. Our school is structured into three smaller learning
communities (SLC), which we refer to as academies. All ninth grade
students begin in our Ninth Grade Success Academy, which is a nurturing
environment wherein students receive both assistance and enrichment in
literacy, mathematics and technology. Toward the end of the first year,
students will choose between two of our career themed academies:
Electrical Technology or Virtual Enterprise Technology. There are three
career pathways in each of these academies. Internship opportunities
and project based learning are embedded into students’ three year
sequence. All academies are supported by dedicated teachers, guidance
counselors, social workers and administrators who share a common goal of
providing a rigorous education for all students with ample support.
